Watermelon mimosa
Description
This watermelon mimosa blends fresh watermelon chunks with orange juice to create a smooth, fruity base. Straining ensures a clean texture. Chilling the mixture helps prevent fizz overflow when adding chilled sparkling wine such as cava, prosecco, or champagne. Adding sugar or honey is optional based on fruit sweetness.
Once assembled in flutes, a gentle stir and fresh mint garnish enhance the drink's aroma and appearance. The sparkling wine adds effervescence and a dry finish balancing the natural sweetness. This cocktail works well as a light celebratory brunch beverage or summer refreshment.
A non-alcoholic version can be made by omitting the sparkling wine or using sparkling limeade, lemonade, or sparkling water instead, offering a festive option for all guests.
Ingredients
- 1 watermelon peeled and cut in small pieces, about 5 cups of fruit, quarter of a large melon
- 2 cups orange juice from 6 large oranges
- 1 champagne cava, prosecco or other sparkling wine, bottle, chilled
- sugar based on sweetness of the fruit, or honey, optional, to taste
- mint fresh leaves; to garnish
Instructions
- Blend the watermelon chunks with the orange juice until you have a smooth mix. Taste and add sugar/honey if needed.
- Strain the watermelon orange mix.
- Chill the watermelon orange mix in the refrigerator until ready to prepare the drinks. If you have time prepare and chill the juice mix overnight, then strain it again before serving. This helps prevent the mimosas from overflowing.
- Pour the watermelon orange mix into champagne flutes, about half full.
- Add the champagne or other sparkling wine, pouring it gently to avoid from making a bubbly mess.
- Stir gently and garnish with a fresh sprig of mint.
Notes
- To make a non-alcoholic drink, omit champagne or substitute with sparkling limeade, lemonade, or sparkling water.
