Watermelon Skewers

Watermelon skewers combine bite-sized pieces of watermelon, cantaloupe, and Galia melon with prosciutto, mozzarella pearls, and fresh basil, drizzled with balsamic glaze. The mix of juicy melon, salty prosciutto, creamy cheese, and herbaceous basil creates a refreshing balance of flavors and textures. These skewers make a convenient appetizer or light snack, especially suitable for warm weather or easy entertaining.

Description

Watermelon Skewers are assembled by threading peeled, bite-sized pieces of watermelon, cantaloupe, and Galia melon onto wooden skewers along with folded prosciutto slices, mozzarella pearls, and basil leaves. The finished skewers receive a drizzle of balsamic glaze and extra basil on top.

The contrast between the sweet, juicy melons and the salty, rich prosciutto is softened by the creamy mozzarella and bright basil. The balsamic glaze adds a hint of acidity and sweetness. The skewer format makes these easy to serve and eat, ideal as finger food at gatherings or as a refreshing side dish.

Skewers can be customized by substituting or mixing melon varieties, adding other fruits or herbs, or making smaller versions with toothpicks. Using similarly sized melon pieces ensures even bites, and you can use store-bought melon balls for convenience.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1/2 watermelon peeled and cut into bite-sized pieces, small
  • 1/2 cantaloupe peeled and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 Galia melon peeled and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 10 lices prosciutto roughly torn and folded
  • 32 mozzarella drained, pearls
  • basil handful, leaves
  • balsamic glaze

Instructions

  1. Soak 16 wooden skewers for at least 30 mins.
  2. Thread each skewer with watermelon, cantaloupe, Galia melon, prosciutto, mozzarella, and basil in the order you prefer.
  3. Place completed skewers on a serving tray, drizzle with balsamic glaze and top with extra basil leaves.

Notes

  • Diversify melon types or use a single kind; consistent cube size helps with presentation and eating.
  • Store-bought melon balls can replace fresh-cut cubes for convenience.
  • Additional fruits, vegetables, or herbs like cucumbers, berries, or mint can be added for variation.
  • Smaller-sized skewers can be made using toothpicks for bite-sized servings.
  • Parma ham is a suitable alternative to prosciutto.
  • Alternatively, assemble the ingredients as a salad instead of on skewers if preferred.
