Watermelon Slushie
Description
Watermelon Slushie is made by freezing chopped, rind-free watermelon pieces for a couple of hours, then blending them until slushy. Adding mint during blending is optional but adds a fresh herbal note. The frozen chunks should be pureed in a powerful blender until they have a finely crushed ice texture. Water may be added sparingly if the mixture is too thick or difficult to blend. The resulting slushie showcase the natural juiciness and sweetness of watermelon with a cool, frosty texture.
The flavor is light, subtle, and refreshing with a blend of pure watermelon sweetness and the occasionally bright hint of mint. Because the watermelon is frozen, the slushie serves as a hydrating and cooling beverage. It’s best enjoyed immediately after blending to prevent separation of juice and fruit solids.
This drink is simple to prepare at home with just a seedless watermelon and frozen time, making it a practical choice for warm days. It can be customized by adjusting the amount of mint or water to suit taste and texture preferences.
Frozen watermelon cubes can be kept for up to six months in sealed containers, allowing for easy preparation ahead. To maintain the slushie's texture, serve without delay after blending, as separation occurs if it sits too long.
Ingredients
- 1 watermelon seedless, chopped with rind removed, personal-sized
- 2 mint sprigs, optional
- 2 tablespoons water optional
Instructions
- Lay the chopped watermelon onto a baking sheet or dish, place in the freezer for 2 hours.
- Once the watermelon is completely frozen, place it into a high-powered blender with the mint (if using) and blend on high until it turns into a slushie. If you’re having trouble because it’s too frozen, you can let it thaw for a minute or two, or you can add 2 tablespoons of water to get it going.
- Enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Enjoy the watermelon slush immediately after blending to avoid separation of water and fruit.
- Store leftover frozen watermelon cubes in freezer-safe containers for up to six months.
- Add more frozen fruit to thicken the slush or a small amount of water or juice to thin it as needed.
