Whipped "Dalgona" Coffee Recipe
Description
To make Whipped "Dalgona" Coffee, instant coffee, granulated sugar (or maple syrup as a substitute), vanilla extract, and hot water are combined in a bowl and whisked at medium-high speed until the mixture becomes light, fluffy, and caramel-colored. This process creates a stable foam from the sugar and instant coffee compounds.
The whipped coffee base is then spooned over a glass filled with ice and milk of choice. The foam floats on top, providing a thick, creamy layer that can be mixed before drinking. The texture is light and airy, with a bold coffee flavor balanced by the sweetness and creaminess of the milk.
This coffee can be served immediately, especially when using maple syrup, as it has a shorter foam stability. Using granulated sugar allows the whipped coffee to hold for several hours if refrigerated. Vanilla extract adds a subtle aroma but is optional. Non-dairy milk versions are suitable for vegan diets.
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp instant coffee
- 2 Tbsp granulated sugar we used maple syrup *see notes, cane, white, brown, or coconut
- 2 Tbsp water hot or boiling
- 1/2 Tsp vanilla extract optional
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, add the instant coffee, Sugar (we used maple syrup), vanilla and hot/boiling water.
- Whisk on medium-high for 5-8 minutes, or until super fluffy and caramel-looking in color.
- To assemble the iced coffee, add ice and milk of choice to a cup.
- Top with whipped coffee and serve immediately. Alternatively, you can add ice over the whipped froth and pour the milk over it as seen in my video. Enjoy!
Notes
- Only instant coffee works to create the whipped foam; other coffee types will not produce the desired texture.
- If using maple syrup as the sweetener, serve the whipped coffee immediately since the foam dissipates quicker than with granulated sugar.
- Granulated sugars such as white, cane, brown, or coconut sugar help the froth last longer if refrigerated for a few hours before serving.
- Vanilla extract is optional and adds subtle flavor when included.
- For a vegan version, use non-dairy milk such as coconut or almond milk.
- Consider adding a dash of cinnamon for extra spiced aroma.
