White BBQ Sauce Recipe (Alabama White Sauce)

White BBQ Sauce, also known as Alabama White Sauce, blends mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, mustard, brown sugar, horseradish, and spices into a tangy and creamy condiment. The sauce is whisked until smooth and can be used immediately or chilled to deepen flavors. Its balance of acidity, sweetness, and mild heat makes it a distinctive topping for grilled meats and barbecue dishes.

Description

This classic Alabama White Sauce combines common pantry ingredients such as mayonnaise and apple cider vinegar with brown mustard and brown sugar to create a creamy yet tangy base. Prepared horseradish introduces a subtle piquancy while lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and spices like garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper add complexity and heat. Salt and black pepper season the mixture to taste.

The ingredients are whisked together until smooth, forming a sauce that is thick but pourable. Using spicy brown mustard and hot horseradish can adjust the sharpness if desired. Allowing the sauce to chill for several hours enhances the melding of flavors but it can also be served fresh.

White BBQ Sauce is traditionally served with smoked or grilled chicken and pork, offering a contrast to red tomato-based sauces with its creamy texture and sharp vinegar tang. It stores well in the refrigerator for about a week, maintaining its freshness and flavor.
