Whole Wheat Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

These Whole Wheat Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies blend whole wheat flour, oats, and chocolate chips for a hearty cookie with chewy texture and sweet bursts from the chips. The combination offers a balance of wholesome grain flavor with familiar cookie sweetness. The dough scoops yield medium-sized cookies with a tender bite.

Description

The recipe uses brown and granulated sugars creamed with butter, then incorporates eggs and vanilla for moisture and flavor. The dry ingredients include baking soda, baking powder, salt, whole wheat flour, and oats, either rolled or quick oats depending on texture preference. Mixing the ingredients together before folding in chocolate chips produces a sturdy dough.

Cookies are portioned by rounded tablespoonfuls onto greased or lined baking sheets and baked at 350°F for about 10 minutes until set but not overbaked. This results in cookies that are soft and chewy with some texture from oats and rich flavor from chocolate chips.

Quick oats offer a softer texture preferred in this recipe, but rolled oats work as well. The use of whole wheat flour adds a nuttier flavor and firmer crumb compared to all-purpose flour.
