Witches' Brew
Description
This Witches' Brew punch begins with a simple spiced syrup made by boiling cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, finely chopped ginger, water, and sugar. After dissolving the sugar and simmering, the mixture steeps off heat for an hour to intensify flavors. Straining removes the solids, leaving a fragrant syrup.
The syrup is combined in a punch bowl with chilled apple juice, cranberry juice, and club soda to add sparkle and tartness. Dark rum is an optional addition that imparts depth and warmth. Adding ice before serving cools the punch, making it suitable as a festive, refreshing drink for gatherings.
The resulting beverage balances spicy warmth, fruity tartness, and effervescence. It can be made nonalcoholic by omitting the rum, appealing to all guests. The ingredients and method produce a complex yet approachable punch with homemade spice notes.
