Witches Hat Cheese Ball
Description
This Witches Hat Cheese Ball uses cream cheese as its base, combined with finely chopped red bell pepper, green onions, and parsley for flavor and texture. The mixture is shaped into a cone with the top bent to mimic a witch's hat. Black olives halved and arranged over the surface create the hat’s distinct look.
The cream cheese's firmness allows molding when chilled, making this an eye-catching holiday or party appetizer. It pairs well with crackers or vegetables for dipping and adds a playful touch to festive gatherings.
Using block cream cheese rather than spreadable ensures the shape holds up well. The assembled cheese hat should chill for at least four hours or up to two days to set properly before serving. Lightly brushing the olives with olive oil before serving enhances their appearance.
Ingredients
- 2 blocks cream cheese see note 1, 8oz/250g packets
- 1 red bell pepper
- 2 green onions
- ¼ cup parsley chopped, fresh
- 2 ½ cups black olives pitted
- 1 tablespoon olive oil - optional
Instructions
- Remove the cream cheese from the fridge at least 30 minutes before you want to start.
- Finely chop the bell pepper and green onion.
- Place the cream cheese in a large mixing bowl and add in the red bell pepper, green onion and chopped parsley. Use a hand mixer or wooden spoon to thoroughly combine the ingredients.
- Place a sheet of cling wrap on the counter top and spoon the cream cheese mixture on top.
- Lay another sheet of cling wrap over the top (you may need two)
- Use your hands to gently push the ball of cream cheese into a cone shape.
- Bending the tip over slightly to resemble a crooked hat top.
- Gently pick up the cone up with one hand and peel off the bottom sheet of cling wrap.
- Place the hat directly onto your serving plate - see note 2.
- Remove the outer cling wrap.
- Cut the olives in half and then decorate the outside of the hat with them.
- Chill for 4 hours or uptown 48 hours.
- When ready to serve lightly brush the olives with oil to help them glisten.
Notes
- Use block cream cheese, either full fat or low fat, for proper shaping; avoid spreadable cream cheese.
- Chill the molded cheese ball for 4 to 48 hours to allow it to firm up before serving.
- Use a small black plate to enhance the hat appearance and serve as the brim.
- Lightly brush olives with olive oil before serving for a polished look.
