Yum Yum Sauce Recipe
Description
The Yum Yum Sauce combines mayonnaise and tomato sauce as its base, creating a smooth and creamy consistency. Seasonings like paprika and powdered sugar lend mild sweetness and a gentle smoky flavor, while black pepper adds subtle heat. The sauce can be enhanced by adding a few drops of lime juice for brightness or Tabasco sauce for a spicy kick, though these should be used sparingly to maintain balanced thickness and flavor.
This versatile sauce traditionally complements seafood, grilled meats, and vegetables, offering a creamy element that ties diverse components together. Its simple composition and easy preparation make it a convenient addition to many dishes where a mildly sweet and tangy dip or drizzle is desirable.
For variations, using Japanese mayonnaise can change the sauce's texture and flavor slightly. Different acidic components like rice vinegar or added horseradish or ginger paste can introduce unique flavor notes. The sauce is best stored refrigerated in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoon mayonnaise *see Notes
- 1 Tablespoon tomato sauce not concentrated version
- ⅛ Teaspoon black pepper ground
- 1 Teaspoon powdered sugar
- 1 Teaspoon paprika powder
- Few Drops lime juice optional
- Tabasco sauce optional
Instructions
- In a bowl add the Mayonnaise and Tomato paste. Mix it all well.
- Then add the remaining ingredients, Black Pepper, Sugar and Paprika and combine to a smooth creamy sauce.
- If you want you can also add Lime juice and/or Tabasco sauce to your yum yum sauce for a little more flavor. Tabasco adds a bit of zing! Don't add too much lemon and Tabasco sauce as the acidity can turn the sauce more liquid. A few drops is enough.
Notes
- Add Tabasco to create a spicy version, using only a few drops to maintain sauce texture.
- Use tomato sauce (not paste or ketchup) to keep the correct flavor and consistency.
- Japanese mayonnaise changes the flavor; avoid homemade mayonnaise to maintain authenticity.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator to preserve freshness.
