5 Minute Homemade Ketchup
Description
The 5 Minute Homemade Ketchup recipe combines tomato paste with vinegar, then adds sugar, salt, and a blend of spices like ground mustard, oregano, cayenne, onion and garlic powders, celery salt, and a pinch of allspice. The result is a rich, thick ketchup that can be adjusted to personal taste by varying vinegar, sugar, or spice levels.
Preparation involves mixing all ingredients in a bowl until smooth, allowing quick assembly without cooking. The acidity from the vinegar balances the sweetness and spices, creating a flavorful condiment that can complement sandwiches, fries, and other foods.
You can vary vinegar types between apple cider vinegar or white vinegar and adjust quantities for desired tanginess. The ketchup keeps well refrigerated for up to a month in an airtight container.
Thinner ketchup can be made by adding water or more vinegar, and sugar or cayenne can be increased for sweeter or spicier versions. The recipe offers flexibility without compromising the essential ketchup flavor.
Ingredients
- 10-12 oz. tomato paste
- 1/8 - 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar add 1/8 cup first - the full 1/3 makes a tangier ketchup (which we like). If you want more tang, add a little more at a time. White vinegar can also be used, or white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano dried
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon celery salt
- pinch ground allspice

- Pour in vinegar and mix well.
- Add the rest of ingredients and mix well.
- Taste and add additional spices if desired.
