5-Minute Homemade Vanilla Simple Syrup

This 5-Minute Homemade Vanilla Simple Syrup uses equal parts water and granulated sugar heated until the sugar dissolves and is infused with vanilla bean paste or extract. The syrup is clear, smooth, and sweetened with natural vanilla flavor. It can be used to sweeten beverages and recipes and stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Description

The syrup is made by combining water and granulated sugar in a saucepan and heating the mixture over medium-high heat until it reaches a simmer and the sugar has completely dissolved, resulting in a clear liquid. After removing from heat, vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract is stirred in to impart a fragrant vanilla note. The syrup can be cooled for use or stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, where it will keep for about two weeks. It provides a convenient way to add vanilla sweetness to drinks and desserts.

Optionally, a vanilla bean pod can be employed by slicing it lengthwise and simmering it with the sugar and water mixture, followed by infusing and scraping the seeds back into the syrup once cooled, yielding more intense vanilla flavors.

The recipe usually yields about three-quarters of a cup and can be easily doubled to make more.
