Ingredients
- 10 ounces calamari tubes 3 large ones
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs beaten
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- ½ cup regular breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- nonstick cooking spray
Instructions
- Slicing the squid tubes into rings about 1/2 inch wide. Ensure they are evenly sliced for consistent cooking.
- Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees F for about 5 minutes.
- Set up your breading station in three separate shallow bowls. Place the all-purpose flour in one bowl, beaten eggs in another, regular breadcrumbs and panko breadcrumbs mixed with sea salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning and smoked paprika in the third.
- Dip each calamari ring into the flour, then the beaten eggs, and finally coat them evenly with the seasoned breadcrumbs mixture. Make sure each ring is thoroughly coated.
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Arrange the coated calamari rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not overlap. Lightly spray the calamari rings with cooking spray.
- Cook the calamari rings in the air fryer at 350°F for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. You may want to shake the basket halfway through cooking for even crisping.
- Once cooked, remove the calamari rings from the air fryer and serve immediately with your favorite dip or a squeeze of lemon.
Notes
- Before you start breading, pat the calamari dry with a paper towel.
- When breading, use one hand for the wet ingredients and the other for the dry. This keeps things from turning into a sticky mess.
- Don't let the calamari rings touch each other in the air fryer basket so the air can circulate.
