Air Fryer Salt and Vinegar French Fries
Description
The recipe starts by washing and cutting Yukon gold potatoes into thin 1/4-inch strips. The potato strips soak in distilled white vinegar for about 30 minutes, allowing the vinegar's acidity to penetrate the potatoes. After draining and drying thoroughly, the fries are tossed with a small amount of vegetable oil to help crisp during air frying. The fries cook in batches at 380°F for 18-20 minutes, turning once for even browning and a crisp exterior.
Once cooked, each batch is immediately tossed with extra white vinegar and salt to intensify the salt and vinegar flavor, a classic combination popular for fries. The result is a fries dish with a crispy texture and a bright, tangy taste that is less greasy than traditional deep-fried versions.
These fries are best served fresh right after air frying and seasoning. They provide a tangy accompaniment to burgers, sandwiches, or as a snack on their own.
Ingredients
- 4 large potato Yukon gold variety
- 4 cups distilled white vinegar or enough to cover potato strips
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Topping
- 4 teaspoons distilled white vinegar divided
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Rinse and scrub the potatoes under cold water.
- Using a sharp knife, cut potatoes into thin 1/4 inch strips.
- Transfer the potato strips to a large bowl, cover with vinegar, and let the potatoes soak for about 30 minutes.
- Drain the vinegar and pat the potatoes dry. Add the vegetable oil to the bowl and toss to coat.
- Working in batches, place potatoes into the air fryer basket in a single layer, trying not to overlap. (I made four batches.)

- After removing each batch of fries from the air fryer, toss with 1 teaspoon vinegar and salt, to taste. Serve immediately.
