Air Fryer Tofu

Air Fryer Tofu yields crispy, golden cubes of extra-firm tofu seasoned with paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper. Coated lightly in arrowroot powder and a touch of olive oil, the tofu cooks evenly in the air fryer at high heat, resulting in a crunchy exterior while maintaining a tender inside. It is versatile for salads, sandwiches, stir-fries, or enjoyed alone as a plant-based snack.

Description

The Air Fryer Tofu recipe uses pressed extra-firm tofu cut into small cubes, coated with arrowroot powder and seasonings including garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper for flavor. A small amount of olive oil helps promote crispiness during air frying. Cooking at 400°F for 10 minutes with a flip halfway through ensures even browning and crisp edges. The texture is distinctly crisp and golden outside with a soft interior. This tofu can be served over salads, in sandwiches, incorporated into stir-fries, or eaten on its own. Its neutral flavor allows for versatility in meal pairing or dipping sauces. Preparation includes pressing the tofu well to remove moisture and tossing thoroughly in coating for best texture.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 16 oz tofu drained and pressed, extra firm
  • 2 Tablespoons arrowroot powder or cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Once tofu has been pressed, chop into ¼-½ inch cubes and add to a large bowl.
  2. Sprinkle arrowroot powder, oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper on tofu. Toss well to coat the tofu.
  3. Preheat air fryer if required. Place tofu in air fryer basket in a single layer and and cook on 400°F for 10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Serve tofu over salad, stuffed into a sandwich, in a stir-fry or on its own like nuggets. I love these dipped in honey mustard or ketchup.

Notes

  • After air frying, let tofu cool slightly before transferring to an airtight container for refrigeration, where it keeps well for 4-5 days.
