Ingredients
Crust
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup light brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup Butter, melted and cooled to room temperature
Filling
- 2 Granny Smith apples, chopped into small pieces
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- ½ cup sour cream
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare an 8 × 8 x 2-inch square pan by lining it with parchment paper and spraying it with non-stick cooking spray.
- In a medium bowl combine 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, ½ cup light brown sugar ½ teaspoon baking soda, ½ teaspoon baking powder, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Stir in the melted ½ cup butter, The dough will be crumbly but make sure all of the butter is incorporated.
- Reserve ¾ cup of the crust mixture and press the remaining into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- In a medium bowl combine ½ cup sour cream, ¼ cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, 1 egg, and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix until incorporated then pour over the crust.
- In a separate bowl combine 1 tablespoon cinnamon and ¼ teaspoon nutmeg. Coat 2 granny smith apples, with the cinnamon mixture and layer the apples evenly over the filling mixture.
- Sprinkle the reserved ¾ cup crust mixture over the top and bake for 25-28 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool the bars completely before cutting them into squares.
