Asian Turkey Lettuce Wraps
Description
Asian Turkey Lettuce Wraps start by browning ground turkey in olive oil, then cooking aromatics like garlic, diced red bell pepper, and onion until tender. The addition of hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and freshly grated ginger infuses the filling with a savory and slightly sweet umami flavor. Mixing in cooked rice and thinly sliced green onions rounds out the dish with hearty texture and mild sharpness.
The filling is served scooped into fresh butter lettuce leaves, which provide a cool, crisp contrast to the warm, flavorful meat mixture. This hand-held presentation makes them convenient finger foods suitable for casual meals or appetizers.
The dish is straightforward in preparation, requiring simple pan cooking and minimal assembly. The blend of ingredients produces a balanced flavor profile that pairs well with light accompaniments or side salads.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground turkey
- salt to taste, Kosher salt and freshly ground
- black pepper to taste, Kosher salt and freshly ground
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 red bell pepper diced
- 1 onion diced, small
- ¼ cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- ½ teaspoon ginger freshly grated
- 1 cup rice cooked
- 3 green onions thinly sliced
- 1 butter lettuce head
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium high heat.
- Add ground turkey and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the turkey as it cooks; drain excess fat and set aside. Add garlic, bell pepper and onion to the saucepan. Cook, stirring frequently, until tender, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in hoisin sauce, soy sauce, ginger and ground turkey until well combined. Add rice and green onions and gently toss to combine.
- To serve, spoon several tablespoons of the turkey mixture into the center of a lettuce leaf, taco-style.
