Authentic Greek Tzatziki Sauce Recipe

This Greek Tzatziki sauce blends creamy Greek yogurt with finely grated, peeled cucumber, fresh garlic, and a hint of black pepper and nutmeg for warmth. The optional dill adds a herbal brightness that complements the rich, tangy yogurt base. It's a refreshing, cool, and slightly tangy sauce with a smooth yet slightly pulpy texture from the grated cucumber, making it a traditional accompaniment for grilled meats or as a dip.

Description

The Authentic Greek Tzatziki Sauce Recipe combines Greek-style plain yogurt with peeled and finely grated cucumber from which the excess liquid is removed to ensure a creamy but not watery consistency. Minced garlic infuses the sauce with pungent depth, while cracked black pepper and a dash of nutmeg offer subtle seasoning to balance the flavors. Fresh dill, if included, imparts a fresh, herbal note. Once mixed, the sauce is ready to drizzle olive oil over and optionally top with mint for added aroma. Due to its cool texture and bright flavor, this tzatziki is typically served chilled alongside grilled meats, vegetables, or as a refreshing dip or spread in Mediterranean meals.

The process emphasizes draining cucumber to keep the sauce thick, and mixing ingredients gently to maintain the creamy texture. Its tangy, garlicky profile with fresh herbaceous undertones makes it a versatile complement in various dishes.
