Authentic Tzatziki - Greek Garlic Yogurt Dip
Description
Authentic Tzatziki combines full-fat Greek yogurt, fresh garlic, and cucumber to create a cool and creamy dip. The cucumber is peeled, grated, and well squeezed to remove water, ensuring the dip remains thick rather than watery. Garlic is crushed with salt to create a paste, which infuses the yogurt with sharp, savory notes. Red wine vinegar adds acidity, balanced by the richness of olive oil and the fresh, herbal flavor of dill.
The method involves gently mixing all ingredients and allowing the dip to chill for at least an hour to develop flavors fully. The resulting texture is smooth but with small cucumber bits, making it refreshing and satisfying.
This dip pairs well with grilled meats, fresh vegetables, or pita bread. It is often served as part of Mediterranean meals or as a cooling complement to spicy dishes.
