Best French Toast
Description
This recipe prepares French toast by whisking together eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and vanilla, forming a flavorful custard to soak the bread slices. Slightly stale bread soaks briefly to absorb the mixture without falling apart. Cooking slices in melted butter over medium heat achieves a golden crust while setting the custard inside. Repeating the process ensures each slice is evenly cooked with a tender center and lightly crisp surface.
The spices add warm notes that complement the sweetness from sugar and vanilla, making it suitable for classic breakfast or brunch. Serving suggestions include maple syrup, butter, and fresh fruit, which enhance the mild sweetness and texture contrasts. This approach balances soft custard with a crisp exterior, highlighting traditional French toast qualities.
