Blackberry Syrup Recipe
Description
The Blackberry Syrup Recipe creates a vibrant syrup by combining blackberries—whether fresh, frozen, jarred, or canned—with granulated sugar, cornstarch, and water. Sugar and cornstarch are whisked with water to dissolve, then blackberries including their juice are stirred in and heated until the mixture boils and thickens.
This process cooks the fruit down and activates cornstarch’s thickening properties, resulting in a syrup that clings well and bursts with blackberry flavor. The syrup’s thickness can be modified by adding more cornstarch for a heavier texture or more water for a thinner pour.
It is practical for use as a topping for breakfast dishes, sweetening beverages, or adding a fruity touch to desserts. The syrup can be stored chilled and reheated gently before serving.
Ingredients
- 4 cups blackberry fresh, frozen, jarred or canned (include any juice
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- In medium saucepan, stir sugar and cornstarch together with a whisk. Slowly stir in water until smooth.
- Stir in blackberries and any juice. Place pot on heat and bring to boil stirring frequently.
- Once sauce thickens, it's done! Of course you can add more cornstarch for a thicker syrup or add more water for a thinner syrup, depending on your preference!
