Broccoli Cauliflower Sausage Casserole

This casserole blends broccoli and cauliflower florets with browned smoked sausage for a hearty main or side dish. The vegetables are briefly boiled to tenderize, then combined with browned sausage, a creamy mix of cream cheese, mayonnaise, mustard, and shredded Mexican blend cheese. Topped with additional cheese and baked until bubbly and golden, the dish is rich and comforting with a mix of textures from the tender vegetables to the savory sausage and melty cheese topping.

Description

The Broccoli Cauliflower Sausage Casserole combines steamed broccoli and cauliflower florets with smoked sausage that is browned with onions and garlic. The smoked sausage adds a smoky, savory element that complements the mild vegetable flavors. The vegetables and sausage are placed in a baking dish where a sauce made from cream cheese, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and shredded Mexican blend cheese is stirred in. The combination creates a creamy coating that binds the ingredients together. Additional cheese sprinkled on top forms a browned, golden crust when baked.

The method includes boiling the vegetables until just tender, then quickly cooking the sausage mixture separately to develop flavor and color. Baking at 400°F for 12 to 15 minutes ensures the cheese melts through and the top crisps modestly. The dish has a balanced blend of tender vegetables, chewy sausage pieces, and a smooth, tangy creamy sauce based on cream cheese and mayonnaise.

This casserole can serve as a main dish for those who enjoy sausage and creamy vegetable bakes, or as a warm side providing a rich vegetable serving. It's suitable for gatherings or weeknight meals, pairing well with simple salads or breads to balance the richness.
