Cajun Shrimp
Description
Cajun Shrimp relies on a flavorful seasoning paste made by combining Cajun spice mix, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and a small amount of water to coat shrimp evenly. Cooking the shrimp in batches on a hot, lightly greased skillet or on a preheated grill achieves a quick sear with a tender, juicy interior. The smoky paprika and traditional Cajun blend bring warmth and a mild spice that underscores the shrimp's natural taste.
The instructions emphasize avoiding overcrowding in the pan to maintain high heat for proper browning rather than steaming, which can occur if shrimp release excess moisture. This allows development of a flavorful crust while keeping the inside succulent. Spraying the pan or shrimp lightly helps prevent sticking without adding excess fat.
This shrimp pairs well with various side dishes such as corn on the cob, rice-based meals like Jollof rice, or roasted vegetables. Adjusting the spice level with more cayenne pepper or less seasoning offers flexibility depending on heat tolerance. The recipe notes that the dish contains zero Weight Watchers Freestyle Points.
Additional tips include using a spoon to remove excess water when cooking defrosted shrimp to avoid steamed texture and cooking in batches to preserve skillet temperature. Oil may substitute the cooking spray if desired.
