Carnitas Tacos Recipe

Carnitas Tacos combine slow-cooked Mexican-style pork that is tender and flavorful with creamy mashed avocado seasoned with lime juice and garlic. These are served in small tortillas and can be topped with fresh minced onion, sour cream, cilantro, and tomato salsa. The long cooking time for the pork yields soft, shredded meat ideal for assembling into tacos offering a combination of savory and fresh flavors.

Description

The recipe centers on Mexican Carnitas, pork cooked slowly for about 8 hours until tender. The pork is shredded and used as the primary taco filling. The avocado is mashed with lime juice, garlic, and salt to create a simple guacamole-like topping that adds creaminess and brightness to the tacos.

Small tortillas—corn, flour, or paleo—are warmed, filled with carnitas, a spoonful of mashed avocado, and topped with minced red onion and optional ingredients such as sour cream, cilantro, and tomato salsa. The combination balances savory, creamy, and fresh elements in each taco.

The preparation is most time-consuming for the pork, but assembling the tacos afterward is straightforward. These tacos could be served as a casual meal or appetizer and offer flexibility in choice of tortillas and toppings.
