Cheddars Honey Butter Croissants
Description
This recipe uses frozen croissants that are proofed at room temperature until doubled in size, ensuring a light, airy final texture. Baking at 350°F produces croissants with crisp, golden crusts and tender interiors. Meanwhile, butter is gently melted with honey on low heat to create a smooth honey butter glaze that complements the croissants.
The warm honey butter adds a sweet, creamy layer that seeps into the flaky pastries, balancing their buttery richness with a subtle honey note. Maintaining low heat during melting prevents the butter from separating, preserving a uniform texture to drizzle over the croissants just after baking and cooling slightly.
These honey butter croissants can be served warm as a breakfast item or snack, and the honey glaze enhances the natural buttery flavor of the croissants without overpowering them. Proper spacing during proofing allows them to expand fully, improving flakiness.
Ingredients
- 1 package Croissant Trader Joe’s, frozen
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 1 1/2 tablespoons honey
Instructions
- Follow the package directions for proofing the croissants. Trader Joe’s frozen croissants take about 6 to 7 hours to thaw and proof.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the croissants for 15 to 19 minutes, until they are fully puffed up and browned.
- While the croissants are baking, place the butter and honey in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently. When the butter melts, turn off the heat. Continue to occasionally stir the honey butter until ready to serve.
- When the croissants have finished baking, remove them from oven. Allow them to cool for 2 to 3 minutes before drizzling the warm honey butter over the warm croissants.
Notes
- Proof croissants spaced at least 2 inches apart to allow for proper expansion without sticking.
- Melt honey and butter gently over low heat to prevent separation and maintain a smooth glaze.
- Start thawing croissants early, as they require 6 to 7 hours to proof fully before baking.
