Chili Oil Wontons
Description
These Chili Oil Wontons begin by boiling 8 to 10 wontons until they rise to the surface, ensuring they are thoroughly cooked but still delicate. The wontons are then transferred to a bowl and immediately drizzled with chili oil to coat them while warm, which enhances their flavor and texture. Chopped green onions and cilantro add a fresh herbal element complementing the rich, spicy oil.
A flavored chili oil variation mixes chili oil with soy sauce, Chinese black vinegar or rice vinegar, toasted sesame oil, granulated sugar, minced garlic, and sesame seeds. This sauce adds layers of savory, tangy, sweet, and nutty notes, intensifying the overall taste experience. The wontons absorb the sauce, making each bite flavorful and satisfying.
This dish serves well as a starter or snack, especially for those who enjoy moderately spicy bites with balanced acidity and umami. Adjusting the amount of chili oil allows customization of heat level. Serving the wontons warm preserves their soft texture while delivering the full flavor impact of the oil and fresh garnishes.
