Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
Description
Chocolate Chip Banana Bread uses a blend of white whole wheat or pastry flour with baking powder and baking soda for leavening. The batter is started by creaming butter and sugar, then incorporating eggs before folding in mashed ripe bananas, lemon juice, and vanilla for moisture and flavor. Semi-sweet chocolate chips are folded in to provide sweet pockets of chocolate throughout the tender crumb. The loaf is baked at 350 degrees to develop a golden crust while remaining moist inside. Letting the bread cool before slicing helps maintain structure.
The outcome is a classic banana bread with chocolate chips that delivers moist texture and sweet, soft bites. Its combination of flour, baking powder, and baking soda creates a balanced rise with a lightly fluffy crumb. This bread is filling, pairs well with butter or nut butters, and is suitable for morning or afternoon snacks.
Substituting all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour is a simple option if desired. Baking times vary by loaf size, so it's important to check doneness with a toothpick. Resting the bread allows for neat slicing and flavor melding. This bread keeps well and can be stored wrapped at room temperature or refrigerated.

Notes
- Replace white whole wheat flour with all-purpose flour if preferred without adjustment to quantities.
- Use ripe bananas for best flavor and natural sweetness.
- Test doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow bread to cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely for easier slicing.
