Cinnamon Sugar Monkey Bread Bites
Description
This recipe uses refrigerated biscuit dough cut into quarters, rolled into balls, then dipped in melted butter and coated with a cinnamon and granulated sugar mixture. The coated dough balls are placed in a greased pie pan and baked until golden brown, creating a clustered bread with a sweet crust.
After baking, a glaze made from powdered sugar, whole milk, and vanilla extract is drizzled over the monkey bread bites, adding moisture and additional sweetness. Some glaze is reserved for dipping.
These bites serve approximately six people but can be portioned as desired. Salted butter may be substituted by leaving out the added kosher salt.
Ingredients
- 16.3 oz can Biscuits I use Pillsbury Grands Southern Homestyle variety, refrigerated
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup butter unsalted
- 1/4 tsp kosher salt
- 1 cup powdered sugar whisked or sifted to remove lumps
- 2 Tbsp milk whole
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Prepare
- Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9" pie pan. Set aside.
- Melt butter, stir in salt, and set aside to cool slightly.
- While butter is cooling, combine cinnamon and granulated sugar in a small bowl and stir well to combine.
Prepare biscuits
- Remove biscuits from the can, and slice each biscuit into 4 equally sized pieces.
- Roll the biscuit pieces into balls.
Dip and roll
- Dip a ball of dough into the melted butter, then add to the bowl with the cinnamon sugar and roll to coat.
- Transfer to prepared pie pan, then repeat with remaining balls of dough.
Bake
- Bake, uncovered, in preheated oven for 20-23 minutes, or until the bites are golden brown.
Make glaze
- While the monkey bread is baking, combine the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
Glaze monkey bread
- When the monkey bread bites are finished baking, remove from the oven and drizzle with about half of the glaze (reserving the other half of the glaze for dipping).
Serve
- Serve warm for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, and enjoy!
Notes
- This recipe yields about six servings but can be divided into any number of portions as needed.
- You may use salted butter instead of unsalted; simply omit the kosher salt in the recipe if doing so.
