Citrus Avocado Salsa (Chunky Avocado Dip)
Description
Citrus Avocado Salsa blends juicy diced oranges with creamy, chunky avocado, complemented by crisp red onion and aromatic fresh cilantro and mint. Chopped walnuts introduce texture and earthiness. The seasoning mix, including sumac and cayenne, adds a gentle warmth and citrusy tang to balance the freshness.
The salsa is tossed with lime juice and extra virgin olive oil, which brightens and smooths the mixture, while crumbled feta cheese on top provides bursts of salty richness. The varied textures—from soft avocado to crunchy nuts and crisp onion—make every bite interesting.
This salsa works well as a dip with chips or crostini, and can also top warm toast or accompany grilled fish or chicken for a refreshing contrast. The recipe suggests preparing non-avocado ingredients in advance, then adding avocado and dressing right before serving to preserve freshness and color. Leftovers keep 1 to 2 nights refrigerated but may darken and lose some texture.
Ingredients
- 2 orange peeled and diced, navel
- 2 avocado or 3 smaller avocados, pitted, peeled and diced, large
- ½ cup onion red, chopped
- ½ cup cilantro chopped
- ½ cup mint chopped, fresh
- ½ cup walnuts chopped
- salt
- black pepper
- ¾ teaspoon sumac
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper or to your liking
- lime juice of 1
- extra virgin olive oil
- 1 to 2 tablespoons feta cheese crumbled
Instructions
- Place oranges, avocado, red onions, fresh herbs, and walnuts in one large bowl. Season with salt, pepper, sumac and pinch of cayenne.
- Add lime juice and a generous drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. Toss gently to combine. Add feta cheese on top. Serve with your favorite healthy chips.
Notes
- Prep all ingredients except avocado ahead to save time; add avocado and season just before serving to keep it fresh and green.
- Serve this salsa as a dip with chips or crusty bread, or use it as a topping for warm toast, grilled trout, or lemon chicken.
- Store leftovers tightly covered in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 nights; discard if a brown layer forms or excess liquid accumulates.
