Classic Coleslaw Recipe (Chick-Fil-A copycat)
Description
The Classic Coleslaw Recipe starts by whisking together white vinegar, sugar, dry mustard, salt, and pepper to create a tangy base. This is followed by incorporating mayonnaise to form a creamy dressing. The finely shredded green cabbage and chopped carrots are then mixed into the dressing, ensuring even coating across all the vegetable pieces.
After assembly, the coleslaw is refrigerated for at least two hours, allowing the flavors to develop and the cabbage to soften slightly but retain crispness. The coleslaw achieves a smooth, creamy texture paired with a fresh crunch from the cabbage and a mild sweetness balanced by vinegar and mustard’s subtle bite.
This coleslaw supports many meals, adding a refreshing contrast to rich or fried foods. Its straightforward ingredients make it accessible and easy to customize.
Ingredients
- 4 tsp white vinegar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp dry mustard ground
- 1/4 tsp kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup mayonnaise (I recommend Hellman's or Duke's)
- 20 oz green cabbage I usually get 2 (10 oz each) bags of preshredded cabbage and chop it, finely shredded, chopped to 1/4" pieces
- 1/4 cup carrot chopped to the same size as the cabbage, shredded and chopped
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, add vinegar, sugar, mustard, salt and pepper and whisk together until sugar has dissolved.
- Add mayo and whisk until combined.
- Add cabbage and carrots and toss to combine.
- Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours (more is better) and serve cold.
