Classic French Remoulade

Classic French Remoulade is a creamy condiment made from mayonnaise blended with finely minced cornichons, capers, and a mix of herbs such as tarragon, parsley, and chives. Enhanced with Dijon mustard, white wine vinegar, and optional anchovy essence, this sauce delivers a balanced tangy and savory flavor ideal for complementing seafood or cold meats. It requires chilling to meld the flavors before serving.

Description

This Classic French Remoulade combines quality mayonnaise with finely minced cornichons, capers, and a traditional herb blend including tarragon, parsley, chives, and sometimes chervil. Dijon mustard and white wine vinegar add a sharp acidic note, while anchovy essence or finely chopped anchovy fillet lends subtle umami, enhancing the overall depth.

The preparation is straightforward: all ingredients are stirred together until combined, then chilled for at least a few hours to allow the flavors to fully integrate. This resting time ensures the sauce develops its characteristic bright and smooth consistency suitable for pairing with fried seafood, boiled shellfish, or cold cuts.

The recipe yields a little over one cup of remoulade, which can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, making it a convenient sauce for entertaining or everyday meals.
