Crab Salad
Description
The Crab Salad recipe uses finely chopped celery and red onion combined with imitation crab meat for a fresh texture contrast. Old Bay seasoning adds a mild seafood spice element while lemon juice brightens the flavors. Mayonnaise provides creaminess to bind the ingredients together.
The salad is simple to make by gently mixing all ingredients, allowing the flavors to meld especially if chilled before serving. Fresh dill contributes a distinctive herbal note; dried dill can be substituted but will be less vibrant.
This salad works well on its own, in sandwiches, or atop crackers for a light, cool dish. It can be prepared ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to two days without loss of texture.
Using imitation crab flakes simplifies preparation though slicing stick-style crab is also an option. Low-fat mayonnaise can substitute for a lighter version without greatly changing texture.
Ingredients
- 1 pound imitation crab meat flaked style, or sticks cut into slices
- 1/2 cup celery finely chopped
- 3 tablespoons red onion finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 1/2 tablespoons dill chopped, plus more for garnish, fresh
Instructions
- Add all of the ingredients to a large bowl. Stir gently to combine.
- Serve immediately, or cover and chill for up to 2 days.
- Sprinkle with additional chopped dill for garnish if desired.
Notes
- Flaked imitation crab meat is convenient; alternatively, slice stick-style crab meat yourself.
- Fresh dill enhances flavor better than dried; substitute 1/2 teaspoon dried if needed.
- Use low-fat mayonnaise if a lighter dressing is preferred.
- Chill salad before serving and consume within 2 days for best freshness.
