Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 cups rolled oats old-fashioned
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • berries optional toppings, sliced bananas, chopped nuts
  • banana
  • nuts
  • maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Spray the inside of the crock pot with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Add the old-fashioned rolled oats, water, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt to the crock pot. Stir to combine.
  3. Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or overnight, until the oats are tender and the desired consistency is reached.
  4. Once done, give the oatmeal a good stir to incorporate any liquid that may be on top.
  5. Serve the oatmeal hot, with your choice of optional toppings such as fresh berries, sliced bananas, chopped nuts, or additional maple syrup.

Notes

  • - Old-fashioned rolled oats will work for this recipe, as they should hold up well during the long cooking process. Steel-cut oats can also be used but may require additional liquid and cooking time.
  • - For a creamier oatmeal, you can use all milk instead of a combination of water and milk.
  • - If you prefer your oatmeal to have a thinner consistency, you can add an extra 1/2 to 1 cup of liquid to the crock pot before cooking.
