Crockpot Spiral Ham
Description
This recipe uses a boneless or bone-in spiral-cut ham placed in a large slow cooker and coated generously with brown sugar. Maple syrup and pineapple juice are poured over the ham to create a sweet, fruity glaze during slow cooking.
Cooking on low heat allows the ham to warm through and absorb the sauce's flavors over 2 to 3 hours, with an additional 30 minutes to spoon the cooking juices over the meat for even glazing. The low, moist heat prevents drying, keeping the ham juicy and tender.
This method frees oven space and simplifies meal prep, especially useful for holiday dinners. The ham is ready to be transferred to a platter and served directly from the crockpot.
For variation, pineapple juice can be substituted with apple cider or orange juice, depending on taste preferences.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ham boneless ham or bone-in ham, spiral-cut
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2/3 cup maple syrup
- 1 cup pineapple juice
Instructions
- Remove ham from packaging and place in a large (7+ quart) slow cooker. Discard glaze packets (if any). Place ham flat-side down in the slow cooker, but if it doesn't fit, ham can be placed on its side so the lid can close.
- Generously rub with brown sugar all over the ham. Pour maple syrup and pineapple juice over the ham.
- Add lid and cook for 2-3 hours on low heat.
- Stir juices and spoon over the ham. Cook on low for an additional 30 minutes.
- Remove ham from slow cooker, place it on a serving platter, and serve!
Notes
- Slow cooking the ham in the crockpot helps keep the meat tender and moist while infusing it with the sweet glaze flavors.
- You can use boneless or bone-in spiral-cut ham to suit your preference or availability.
- If desired, swap pineapple juice for apple cider or orange juice for a different glaze profile.
- This crockpot method frees up oven space to cook side dishes simultaneously.
