Croissant Bake
Description
This recipe begins by cutting croissants into pieces and soaking them in a mixture of eggs, heavy cream or milk, salt, garlic salt, black pepper, and fresh rosemary, which infuses the bake with herbal and savory flavors. The croissants absorb the custard, creating a rich texture when baked.
Deli meats such as ham, prosciutto, turkey, or salami are layered in the spaces between the soaked croissants along with slices of Swiss cheese and mozzarella, providing a combination of salty, meaty flavors and melty, mild cheeses that bind the dish together during baking.
The bake is cooked at 350°F until the cheese melts and the custard sets. Meanwhile, a honey butter sauce is prepared by combining butter, honey, and fresh herbs. This sauce is basted over the bake during or after cooking, imparting a subtle sweetness and aromatic herbal note that balances the savory components.
