Instructions

  1. Preheat air fryer to 300 F (150C).
  2. Thinly slice the apples, without peeling. Core them if desired. You can either slice with a mandolin or a very sharp knife to 1/8 inch thickness. Place all the apple slices in a bowl, then sprinkle with cinnamon and toss to coat thoroughly.
  3. Add the apple slices to the air fryer without overcrowding. You may have to air fry in batches (I did two batches).
  4. Air fry for 14-16 minutes, tossing the slices around every 5 minutes or so.
  5. Once cooking time is over, remove onto a platter and let them cool at which point they'll crisp up further.
  6. Enjoy right away or store tightly covered at cool room temperature or in the fridge for up to one week.

Notes

  • You can use any apples you like, I prefer red in this recipe for the extra sweetness. You really won't need to add any sugar to the apple slices, as their sweetness gets concentrated once they lose moisture.
  • Make sure you slice the apples as thin as you can get so they crisp up nicely, and try to get them equal sizes so they all cook at the same time.
  • Don't overcrowd the apples in the air fryer basket, or they'll be soggy instead of crispy because they won't be exposed to the hot air all over. I recommend cooking these in two batches.
  • Oven method: You can also make these in an oven. You'll heat the oven to 215 F (100C), and bake for 3 hours onto a baking sheet until dried out. Remove from the baking sheet to a wire cooling rack and cool completely.
  • Storing leftovers: Leftovers will last in an air tight container for up to one week at cool room temperature or in the fridge.
  • Different seasonings: Feel free to add extra spices, like pumpkin pie spice, or nutmeg/cloves/ginger, etc.
