Easy Apple and Sausage Stuffing
Description
This Easy Apple and Sausage Stuffing begins by cooking breakfast sausage until browned and slicing it into pieces. Onions, celery, and apples are softened in the skillet alongside sage, thyme, and parsley to impart savory and aromatic notes. The mixture is combined with cubed, dried French bread to absorb the flavors.
A liquid mixture of chicken stock, egg, and melted butter is whisked together and added to the bread-sausage mixture, binding it gently. The stuffing is pressed into a baking dish and baked at 375 degrees until the top crisps, providing contrast to the moist interior. The apples add a subtle sweetness that complements the sausage and herbs.
Serve this stuffing as a side for roasted poultry or pork dishes, particularly suitable for holiday meals. Its balance of savory and sweet elements along with varied textures enhances the meal's complexity without overpowering the main course.
