Easy Mazapan Recipe

Easy Mazapan offers a sweet treat made from roasted unsalted peanuts ground finely with powdered sugar and pressed into firm, delicate rounds. This Mexican-style confection has a soft, crumbly texture that melts in the mouth. The recipe's focus on finely pulverizing the peanuts and firmly pressing the mixture into molds ensures that the mazapan holds its fragile shape well.

Description

This mazapan recipe transforms simple ingredients—roasted unsalted peanuts and powdered sugar—into a traditional peanut candy with a smooth yet crumbly texture. Grinding the peanuts finely in a food processor achieves the characteristic powdery consistency, which is crucial for forming solid mazapan rounds. Pressing the mixture firmly into cookie molds helps the candy maintain shape despite its delicate nature.

The candy’s taste is mildly sweet with pronounced peanut flavor and a melt-in-the-mouth softness. Handling requires care, as the mazapan breaks easily; gently pushing from the mold's sides rather than the center prevents cracking. Once formed, the candies are ready to enjoy as a snack or dessert.

Storing finished mazapan in an airtight container or wrapping individually in plastic helps maintain freshness, preventing moisture from softening the candies prematurely. The recipe yields about seven mazapanes of approximately 2.25-inch diameter, suitable for sharing or gifting.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 ½  cups peanuts roasted unsalted
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for a more firm texture

Instructions

  1. In a food processor (preferred method) or blender, add the 1 ½ cup of peanuts and the 1 cup confectioners sugar. Puree until you reach a fine and powdery texture.
  2. Scoop the ground peanut mixture to a cookie mold and begin pressing it down with your fingers, the back of a spatula or spoon.
  3. Don't be afraid to press very hard! The more compact the mixture is the better it'll keep its form.
  4. Remove them very gently as they break very easily. Tip: Push from the sides of the mold and not from the center. Do it a little bit at the time to avoid braking it.

Notes

  • Store the mazapan in an airtight container or wrap each piece individually to preserve freshness.
  • Handle the mazapan carefully when removing from molds, pushing out gradually from the sides to avoid breaking.
  • Press the peanut-sugar mixture firmly into molds to ensure the candies hold together.
  • This recipe makes about seven mazapan pieces sized approximately 2.25 inches in diameter.
