Easy Tzatziki Sauce

Easy Tzatziki Sauce blends plain Greek yogurt with minced garlic, fresh dill, lemon juice, olive oil, and optional diced cucumber for a cool, creamy, and slightly tangy sauce. This sauce carries a fresh herbal note and light texture, making it a versatile condiment for pita pockets or vegetables.

Description

This tzatziki recipe uses Greek yogurt as a creamy base, combined with garlic and dill for a distinctive flavor. Lemon juice adds brightness, while olive oil provides smoothness. The inclusion of diced cucumber is optional, offering extra crunch and freshness where used.

The ingredients are simply mixed together and set aside to allow flavors to meld. The sauce’s consistency is creamy yet slightly chunky if cucumber is included, providing a refreshing contrast to warm or grilled foods.

Tzatziki serves well as a dip for bread or vegetables and as a flavorful spread inside pita pockets filled with vegetables or meats. Its crisp herbal and citrus notes balance richer fillings. This prepared sauce requires minimal steps and is adaptable with herbs depending on preference or region.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1/2 cup yogurt plain, Greek
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon dill minced fresh
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1/2 cucumber diced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tzaziki sauce by combining all ingredients in a small bowl. Stir until well combined. Set aside.
  2. Open up each of the pita pocket breads so that it can be stuffed full of goodness. Careful not to tear. Stuff full of the vegetable fillings, spread a little tzaziki sauce in there for flavor.

Notes

  • Tzatziki sauce is a Greek yogurt and cucumber dip with variations across Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines.
  • Mint or parsley can substitute for dill depending on regional preferences.
  • The sauce works well as a dip or a condiment for gyros, pita breads, and vegetable plates.
  • Be careful not to tear pita pockets during stuffing to hold fillings properly.
