Egg Roll Bowl
Description
This recipe begins by preparing a sauce of tamari, sweet chili sauce, fresh minced garlic, ginger, black pepper, and sesame oil, combining salty, sweet, and aromatic flavors. Ground pork is cooked with the white parts of green onions until browned, developing a savory base. Adding coleslaw mix and the remaining green onions softens the cabbage mixture as it absorbs the sauce.
Once cooked, the mixture is served over white rice and garnished with spicy mayo (mayonnaise flavored with sriracha and sesame oil) and sesame seeds, creating layers of flavor and contrasting textures. The cabbage cooks down from a crisp slaw to tender, slightly saucy pieces that complement the ground pork. The spicy mayo adds creaminess and a mild heat.
Although the coleslaw may appear abundant initially, it reduces substantially during cooking. This dish provides a practical and flavorful way to enjoy egg roll flavors without the wrapper, suitable for busy weeknight dinners or meal prep. The spicy mayo can be adjusted to taste or replaced with standard mayo.
