Flaxseed Crackers Recipe

Flaxseed Crackers combine golden flaxseed meal and whole flaxseeds with salt, black pepper, and optional Italian seasoning and garlic powder to form a dough. Rolled thin and baked until golden and crisp, these crackers offer a crunchy, nutty snack or accompaniment. The recipe’s simplicity allows easy adjustments to flavor and thickness.

Description

This recipe mixes ground and whole golden flaxseeds with sea salt and black pepper, adding Italian seasoning and garlic powder if desired. Water is incorporated to create a sticky dough that can be rolled out thinly between parchment paper. Scoring the surface into squares prior to baking helps portion the crackers for easy separation after baking.

Baked at 400°F for about 18-20 minutes, the crackers turn golden and develop a crisp texture. Cooling completely before breaking apart ensures clean edges and a firm bite. This method produces crackers that highlight flaxseed’s nutty flavor and crunch without additional flour or grains.

They function well as a snack on their own, a bread alternative, or alongside dips and cheeses. The recipe is straightforward and adaptable, encouraging personalization with spices or thickness.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 cup golden flaxseed meal
  • 2 tablespoons flaxseeds golden variety
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder optional
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flaxseed meal, whole flaxseeds, sea salt, and black pepper. Optionally, add Italian seasoning and garlic powder for extra flavor.
  3. Add water to the bowl and stir until a dough forms. The mixture should be sticky and hold together.
  4. Between two pieces of lightly oiled parchment paper, roll out the dough into a thin rectangle, about 12 x 9 inches and 1/8-inch thick.
  5. Carefully remove the top parchment paper. Use a knife to score the dough into 1.5-inch squares, creating a grid pattern.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the crackers are golden and crisp.
  7. Let the crackers cool completely before breaking them apart at the scored lines.
