French Onion Dip

A creamy homemade dip with sweet caramelized onions served with your favorite dippers!

Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups sweet onion chopped
- 2 tablespoons salted butter
- 1 cup sour cream
- ⅔ cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- In a 6-inch skillet, combine the onion and butter. Cook over low heat, stirring frequently, until the onion is golden brown. This should take about 20 to 30 minutes. Cool completely.
- While the onion is cooking, in a medium bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder.
- Stir in the cooled onion. Taste and season with salt and black pepper.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- Onions for French Onion Dip - Much like French onion soup, I like to use a sweet onion such as Walla walla or Vidalia onions. However, this recipe will work with almost any variety of onions.
- Cream Cheese Variation - If you'd like a thicker creamy texture, soften 4 oz of cream cheese and beat with a hand mixer until fluffy. Reduce the sour cream by 1/4 cup and proceed with the recipe as written.
- Fresh herbs can be added. Parsley, fresh chives, and thyme are great options. Sprinkle in a little bit onion powder for more onion flavor if you'd like!
- French Onion Dip can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days. Stir before serving.
