Fresas Con Crema
Description
Fresas Con Crema is a straightforward Mexican dessert made by combining fresh sliced strawberries with a rich cream mixture featuring sour cream, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract. The strawberries provide a fresh, slightly tart contrast to the sweet and creamy topping that has a velvety texture. The method involves slicing the fruit and preparing the cream separately, then layering them for a visually appealing presentation. This dish can be served immediately or stored in the refrigerator for up to five days, allowing the flavors to meld. The result is a cool, sweet treat that balances fruity freshness with creamy indulgence.
The cream mixture's tenderness and sweetness softly complement the juicy strawberries, making it a dessert suited to warm weather or after meals. Variations include swapping the sour cream with alternatives such as light sour cream, Greek yogurt, or creme fraiche, and adjusting the milk components accordingly. The simple prep and storage flexibility make this a practical choice for home cooks looking for a classic creamy fruit dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 pound strawberry fresh
- 2 cups sour cream
- 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
- ½ cup evaporated milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Remove and discard the stems from the strawberries. Slice the fruit into thin slices and transfer to a medium bowl.
- In a large mixing bowl, add sour cream, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk and vanilla extract. Whisk together to combine.
- Scoop ½ cup sliced strawberries into 6 bowls or cups. Then top each cup with ½ cup sweet cream mixture.
- Serve immediately with a spoon or store in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Notes
- You can substitute full-fat sour cream with lighter versions or plain Greek yogurt for a lower-fat option.
- If you don't have evaporated milk, whole milk or half-and-half works as a replacement.
- Frozen strawberries may be used if thawed beforehand; other fruits like blueberries, raspberries, or peaches can be substituted.
