Fresh Cranberry Relish

Report
Fresh Cranberry Relish blends whole cranberries, sugar, and an unpeeled orange processed until smooth, creating a bright and tangy relish. This mix delivers a fresh, vibrant flavor with a balance of tartness from the cranberries and citrus notes from the orange peel. Served chilled, it complements holiday meals or can be used as a condiment or spread.

Description

Fresh Cranberry Relish combines cranberries, sugar, and an orange with its peel intact. After removing the egg root ends of the orange, the fruit is sliced and processed with the cranberries and sugar until mostly smooth, without large chunks. This preparation highlights the tartness of the cranberries and the slight bitterness and fragrance of the orange peel.

The relish is chilled for at least one hour to allow the flavors to meld, resulting in a fresh, vibrant condiment suitable alongside savory dishes. Its texture is smooth with some small bits, offering a spreadable consistency.

Sugar levels can be adjusted according to taste, with the option to reduce the sugar for less sweetness. The relish keeps for up to one week refrigerated in a covered container, maintaining freshness for several servings.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 10 ounces cranberries fresh works too, frozen
  • 1 orange with the peel on
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. If you are using frozen cranberries, allow them to thaw slightly on the counter. We thawed ours for about 10 minutes while we were preparing everything else.
  2. Slice the egg root ends off the orange. Leave the rest of the. skin on. Then slice it into 8 slices.
  3. Place the cranberries, sugar, and the sliced orange in a food processor.
  4. Process until smooth or until no large chunks remain.
  5. Refrigerate until ready to serve. We like the flavors to combine in the fridge for at least an hour.
  6. Stir right before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust sugar to taste; reducing to ½ cup yields a less sweet relish.
  • Store in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to one week to maintain freshness.
