Fresh Spinach Dip in a Bread Bowl
Description
The Fresh Spinach Dip in a Bread Bowl features a combination of yogurt, mayonnaise, and sour cream as a creamy base, mixed with fresh baby spinach, shredded carrots, and green onions for light vegetable texture. Seasoned with garlic powder, dill, salt, and pepper, the dip offers gentle savory flavor without overwhelming the fresh ingredients. Presented in a hollowed-out small round loaf, the bread itself is cut up to serve as dippers, minimizing waste and adding a sturdy, chewy element to accompany the smooth dip. Chilling the mixture allows the flavors to develop and bind, yielding a cohesive taste balance. The fresh vegetables contribute crunch and freshness, complementing the creamy, tangy base.
This dip works well as a snack or appetizer, particularly wherever communal dips are enjoyed, providing both spreadable texture and dippable bread pieces. You can customize the dippers with various vegetables or crunchy items like pita chips or bell pepper slices as suggested.
For a garnish, adding chopped tomatoes or more green onion on top can brighten the dip’s look and flavor before serving. Using a quality mayonnaise and plain Greek yogurt supports a creamy, tangy consistency. Be sure to thoroughly chill before serving to maximize flavor combination.
Ingredients
- 1 bread small round loaf
- 1 cup yogurt my favorite is Fage 2%, plain, Greek
- ⅔ cup mayonnaise quality
- ¼ cup sour cream
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp dill dried
- ½ cup carrot shredded, chopped or minced
- 2-3 oz baby spinach fresh, chopped
- 2-3 TBSP green onion chopped
Instructions
- Slice off the top portion of your loaf and remove most of the fluffy bread from the center.
- Chop bot the "lid" and the insides to use as dippers - no food waste here!
- For the dip, chop your veggies and combine with yogurt, mayo, and sour cream. Season with garlic powder, salt, pepper, and dill and mix well.
- Feel free to enjoy right away, but for best results, allow dip to chill overnight. Serious deliciousness happens when the ingredients get up close and personal in the fridge!
Notes
- Use the scooped-out bread both as a lid and cut into pieces for dippers to avoid waste.
- Chill the dip overnight to let the flavors fully meld and improve texture.
- Optional vegetable garnishes like tomatoes or extra green onions add freshness when serving.
- Good dippers include celery, carrot sticks, cucumbers, bell peppers, pita chips, or broccoli and cauliflower pieces.
