Fruit Salad Dressing
Description
Fruit Salad Dressing consists of a simple blend of honey, fresh orange juice, and lemon zest whisked together to produce a bright, naturally sweet topping ideal for fresh fruit salads. The lemon zest adds aromatic citrus oils without bitterness, complementing the sweet honey and fruity orange juice.
The dressing is designed to be drizzled over diced or sliced fruit and chilled for at least an hour to allow the flavors to combine well. This increases the fruit salad's flavor complexity and freshness.
This recipe yields about half a cup of dressing, enough for dressing one fruit salad or four servings at two tablespoons each. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to four days, and making it up to three days in advance helps deepen the flavor integration. Before using leftovers, stir or shake well to recombine any separation.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup honey (see note 1)
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1 tablespoon lemon see note 2, zest
Instructions
- In a small bowl whisk together honey, orange juice, and lemon zest. Drizzle over fruit and refrigerate for 1 hour before serving to meld flavors.
Notes
- Use just the colored zest of the lemon to avoid bitter pith.
- Leftover dressing keeps refrigerated for up to 4 days; stir or shake before reuse.
- Dressing can be prepared up to 3 days in advance for deeper flavor melding.
- Alternate sweeteners like maple syrup or agave can be substituted for honey as desired.
