Garlic Cheese Toast
Description
This recipe starts with softened butter, part of which is mixed with minced garlic and a combination of shredded cheddar, Monterey Jack, and Parmesan cheeses. The other part of the butter is spread on one side of slightly dry, thick bread slices, which are then placed butter side down on a baking sheet. The garlic cheese butter mixture is spread evenly on the unbuttered side. The toast is baked at 375°F until the cheese melts, about 8 to 10 minutes, and optionally broiled briefly to brown the cheese surface.
The resulting toast has a crispy base with a rich, creamy, and slightly garlicky cheese topping. The blend of cheeses adds depth with sharpness from cheddar and Parmesan paired with the milder Monterey Jack. Cooking times ensure the cheese melts without burning and the bread crisps nicely.
This garlic cheese toast can be served warm as a side with soups or salads, or enjoyed as a snack. It can also be used over French bread slices to make a cheesy loaf. Adjusting the cheese blend allows customization of flavor intensity.
For convenience, a food processor can be used to mix the cheese butter, but a hand mixer or thorough hand mixing works as well.

- Any cheeses can be used; including a sharp cheese like Parmesan ensures a bold flavor.
- This mixture can be spread on French bread slices to create a cheesy bread loaf.
