German Potato ジャーマンポテト

The German Potato or ジャーマンポテト is a hearty dish featuring boiled potato chunks pan-fried with Japanese or German sausage, rindless bacon, and garlic. It is flavored with whole grain mustard, salt, and black pepper, then garnished with fresh parsley or thyme. Boiling the potatoes first gives a soft interior, while pan-frying with sausage and bacon adds a smoky, savory crust and aroma.

Description

This recipe starts by boiling bite-sized potato pieces until tender, then draining them thoroughly. While the potatoes cook, the sausage and bacon are sliced and prepared. Garlic is crushed and heated in olive oil to infuse flavor before adding the bacon and sausages to brown and develop crisp edges.

The boiled potatoes and mustard join the pan to be fried together, allowing the potatoes to achieve some color and absorb the savory flavors from the meat and garlic. Seasoning with salt and black pepper balances the dish. A finishing garnish with parsley or thyme provides a fresh herbal note.

The dish acts as a satisfying side or light main, blending the creaminess of soft potatoes with the saltiness and crispness of cured meats. It can be served warm alongside other dishes or as part of a meal featuring German-style sausages.
