Greek Salad Dressing
Description
Greek Salad Dressing combines high-quality extra-virgin olive oil with acidic ingredients such as red wine vinegar and lemon juice, sweetened slightly by honey. Dried oregano, garlic, Dijon mustard, basil, salt, and black pepper round out the flavor profile, contributing aromatic and savory notes typical of Greek cuisine. The mustard helps emulsify the oil and vinegar mixture, ensuring a stable dressing.
The ingredients are mixed by gradually incorporating the olive oil into the other components to create a smooth emulsion, avoiding separation. The dressing is fresh-tasting with a pleasing balance of acidity, sweetness, and herbaceous flavors, ideal for drizzling over mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, or traditional Greek salad components.
This dressing can also be prepared ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to one week, shaking well before use if oil separates. Variations such as adding apple cider vinegar or grated cheese like Parmesan or feta can be included to adjust flavor to taste.
Ingredients
- ½ cup extra-virgin olive oil
- ¼ cup red wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons honey
- 1 ½ teaspoons oregano dried
- 1 ½ teaspoons garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon basil dried
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Set the olive oil aside and combine all remaining ingredients.
- Slowly stir in the olive oil. Do this very gradually so that it emulsifies, which prevents the dressing from separating. Serve immediately, or chill for up to 1 week prior to serving.
Notes
- Use a high-quality olive oil labeled for salads and marinades for best flavor.
- If the dressing separates in storage, shake well before serving to recombine.
- Adding 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar can add extra flavor variation.
- Grated Parmesan, Romano, or finely crumbled feta cheese can be mixed in for a richer dressing.
- Store dressing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- If olive oil solidifies in the fridge, allow it to return to room temperature and shake to combine before use.
