Guacamole
Description
This guacamole begins with ripe avocados scooped and mashed in a bowl with lime juice to prevent browning and add brightness. The texture is kept slightly chunky rather than fully pureed to retain a bit of bite. Diced onions provide sharpness and crunch, while Serrano peppers add a gentle heat which can be adjusted or omitted according to taste.
Chopped cilantro introduces herbal notes, and optional diced tomatoes add freshness and a slight acidity. Salt seasons the dip to balance and enhance flavors. It is best served immediately to preserve color and freshness, although lime juice delays browning.
Guacamole can be enjoyed as a dip with tortilla chips or as a topping for Mexican dishes. Adjust pepper quantity to manage spiciness to preference.
Ingredients
- 3 avocado ripe
- 1/2-1 lime - adjust to taste
- ½ cup onion finely diced
- 2 Serrano peppers deveined and seeded - can also use jalapeños or your choice of spicy peppers - omit if you don't want a spicy guacamole, finely chopped
- 1-2 garlic crushed (optional, cloves
- 2 tbs cilantro finely chopped
- salt to taste
- tomato diced, optional, 1-2
Instructions
- Slice the avocados lengthwise and remove the seeds.
- Use a spoon to remove the avocado flesh, place it in a large bowl, drizzle the lime juice on top, and mash the avocados until pureed, I like to leave a few small chunks to give it some consistency.
- Add the diced onion, peppers, crushed garlic, chopped cilantro, tomatoes (if using) and salt to taste, mix well and serve immediately as a dip with chips or a side dish.
