Guava Margarita
Description
This Guava Margarita recipe combines 2 ounces of tequila or mezcal with guava nectar, freshly squeezed lime juice, agave nectar, and orange liqueur to craft a fruity and tangy cocktail. The rimmed glass, coated with either coarse salt or Tajin seasoning, enhances the drink's flavor contrast. The ingredients are shaken with ice to chill and dilute slightly for balance, then strained over ice to maintain freshness.
The guava nectar imparts a gentle tropical sweetness, while the lime juice provides bright acidity typical of margaritas. Agave nectar lends smooth sweetness that integrates well with tequila’s earthy notes. Triple sec adds citrus complexity and additional sweetness. Mezcal, as an option, imparts a smoky character that complements the guava.
Serving immediately preserves the fresh citrus and guava flavors and ensures the best texture. The cocktail can be garnished simply with a lime or guava wedge on the rim.
Prepared margarita mix can be refrigerated up to 24 hours before serving, but fresh preparation is recommended for optimal taste. The mix can also be frozen in ice cube trays and blended later for a frozen variation.
Ingredients
- 2 ounces tequila (or mezcal)
- 2 ounces guava nectar (or 2 fresh guavas, pureed and strained)
- 3/4 ounces lime juice freshly squeezed
- 1/2 ounce agave nectar (or simple syrup)
- 1/2 ounce orange liqueur (triple sec)
- ice cubes
- coarse salt for garnish on rim, or Tajin
Instructions

Notes
- Serve immediately for the best fresh flavor from the juices.
- You can prepare the cocktail mix ahead and store in the fridge for up to 24 hours, shaking before serving over ice.
- Freeze the prepared mix in ice cube trays to make frozen guava margaritas by thawing and blending before serving.
